Here’s today’s selection

1:30 Haydock – Whizz Kid

Bubble Dubi looks a pretty obvious start point for this Challenger Series Finals Day at Haydock after his win at Stratford last month which saw him take a good step forward on anything he’d achieved previously.

He always travelled like the winner that day and readily took it up after the last, beating Word Has It three lengths with 30+ lengths back to the third. A rise of 5lb looks more than fair and given that was only his second handicap start, you’d imagine there’s plenty more to come. That win was one of the last of the qualifiers for this, and the whole thing looks something of a plan.

WHIZZ KID, for a resurgent Richard Newland, might be the danger. His recent form is working out well, being only 2lb higher then when scoring at Doncaster with the unlucky Mr Freedom in third, and that one has twice run well at Ascot and Cheltenham since. He’s been tried over 2m4f but doesn’t really stay, and if you concentrate purely on his 2m handicap form before this season it reads 2321. He looks well handicapped at present, and should give another good account of himself.
