Here’s today’s selection

1:40 Beverley – Thomas Cranmer

Poor fields at most of the day’s meetings, as will be the case while this heatwave holds, but Beverley has produced some competitive racing, and there are a couple of bets on the card, starting with the amateur riders’ handicap, in which Thomas Cranmer can cause a shock.

Trainer Tina Jackson has just a small string, but she is 2-15 in turf handicaps this season (€130 profit to a tenner at SP), and Thomas Cranmer has become well handicapped having run respectably of late. He failed to stay 1½m at Thirsk last time, but was in with a chance until weakening over a furlong out, and had been showing up quite well over hurdles prior to that.

The eight-year-old must have quick ground to show his best, and his record in turf handicaps at up to this trip on good to firm or faster ground reads 151066417125854402, improving to 112 around a right-handed bend at 1m to 1¼m. He was a close second over C&D off a stone higher in 2020, and has not had his ideal conditions on turf since then.

Can see the price drifting back later on, so we’ll back him e/w at SP with Skybet, who are going five places.
