Here’s today’s selection
1:30 Cheltenham – Champ Kiely
Best bet on the card comes in the opener, with CHAMP KIELY an underrated performer. He was given a poor ride in retrospect when beaten in the Royal Bond, tanking along and sent to the front before halfway by Paul Townend. He traded very short in the run, but had nothing left for the finish on very testing ground and driving rain. He turned the tables comprehensively on Royal Bond runner-up Irish Point in the Lawlors of Naas with Danny Mullins doing the steering, and that Grade 1 win seems to have gone under the radar given horses who have not shown the same level of form are preferred to him in the betting.
Impaire Et Passe is a warm favourite, but he’s there on home reputation rather that what he’s achieved, with his win in the Moscow Flyer coming from a rival in The Model Kingdom who was let down by her jumping, as was the third; there is no doubt that Impaire Et Passe is a cracking prospect, but the formbook doesn’t paint the same picture as the market.
