Here’s today’s selection
4:10 Ascot – Sir Thomas Gresham
Marshal Dan might try and take them from start to finish here but he tried that at Newbury last time, where the ground ought to have suited him, and in the end he was well beaten. He’s a big price if you’re the forgiving sort, but ultimately such tactics will merely serve to suit SIR THOMAS GRESHAM, who has been on the radar for some time, and has a handicap like this within his grasp of continuing to come forward on the back of a lengthy absence. Soft ground suits, and this looks a suitable opportunity for the well-handicapped eight-year-old.
Rated in the 100’s at his peak back in 2019, Sir Thomas Gresham missed several seasons through injury, but has gradually rediscovered his form with racing this term, and he looked ready to strike when fourth in that Newbury race, doing some good late work to finish within shouting distance of the winner, Bernardo O’Reilly having lost ground when rearing at the start. The handicapper has kindly dropped him another pound for that and he is expected to finish strongly off what should be a good pace to take the prize. He could do with not conceding ground at the off, but Ascot is the most forgiving course in the country for a slow starter, and he should need no excuses.
