6:30 Southwell – Roman Art
You know the onset of autumn is here by three things in my world; the windows mist up in the bedroom in the mornings (CAREFUL NOW), Weetabix with hot milk on is the order of the day for breakfast (don’t knock it until you’ve tried it, a morning malty delight) and the evening floodlit meetings at Southwell swing back into action.
And I think there’s a solid bet on the card with ROMAN ART looking to go a couple of places better than his third here last time out.
Some context to that run; he looked very much like a handicap project in his first three starts, learning as he went, and the best run of those three came here over a mile in January. Not seen out until May after that, he looked in need of a run or two to grease the gears but, equipped with blinkers last time, run a much better race over this C&D, holding every chance until late in the piece.
That form has worked out really well, with the winner Artisan Dancer going in again twice since and second home Eloped a winner on her next start too. The front three were clear of Queensland Boy, who went off favourite after winning his previous start and the form has a very solid look to it.
Off the same mark tonight, it is interesting Hughie Morrison has waited five weeks to run him here rather than somewhere else in the meantime. His best two efforts have now come on Tapeta and he looks ready to strike with the blinkers retained
