Second in the Dewhurst to Native Trail last year, this year has been less successful and it is easily to write him off as having not trained on. However, it wasn’t a write-off in the Jersey, where he travelled well and probably wasn’t best placed to challenge anyway, and maybe a drop back to 6f, cheekpieces and allowed to bowl along in front might spark a revival.
Hugo Palmer has a good record with them in first time cheekpieces, with 6 from his last 15 using the equipment winners, and that includes the only two he’s tried it on this year, Dig Two and Skittlebombz. For a horse that traded 2-5 in running to win the Dewhurst, he looks a big price to bounce back to that sort of form today.
