Here’s today’s selection

3:30 Brighton – By Pass

Brighton isn’t normally our first choice for punting, as the track throws up too many hard-luck stories, but a couple of the later races on Tuesday’s card look very weak, and the favourites offer value as both should get the run of things from the front.

On the face of it, BY PASS is a filly of limited ability, being rated just 46 by the handicapper, but she’s a big, strapping sort, who has clearly taken time to come to hand, and left her poor juvenile form behind with a couple of eyecatching handicap runs this spring. She was a length and a half behind favourite Fast Danseuse at Windsor two starts ago, and that race has thrown up several next-time-out winners, which is impressive for the grade.

By Pass was then 2½ lengths fifth of 8 to Mrembo in a 1¼m handicap at. On both of those occasions she lost her position a couple of furlongs out when amongst other horses before finishing with running left, and we thought she needed headgear to help her concentrate/give her a bit more courage. She duly showed more when fitted with a or at Nottingham, finishing second after making the running, despite racing a bit too freely for her own good. She is now fitted with blinkers, and we think Bill Turner has found a very weak race for her. It’s our belief that she will progress again now the penny has dropped and has the scope to rate a fair bit better than her current mark, so we are hoping she doesn’t see another rival in the Sky Sports Racing Sky 415 Handicap.
