Here’s today’s selection

4:10 Goodwood – Atalis Bay

The question here is whether Celsius really has turned a corner, and is going to hold his form for another run, or whether he will revert to type and his form will start to fall away, as it has done in previous years. It could be they have sorted out his bleeding issues from the past and if that’s the case, he could easily win again, but that is by no means a given.

ATALIS BAY is top of our shortlist. He should get this run to suit, with old Ornate likely to blast out (he’s quick here – remember him giving Battaash a run for his money here a few seasons ago) and dropping to a handicap after trying his luck at Listed level, he can make his class tell.

The last time we saw Atalis Bay in a handicap was back in May, when he was trying to give the useful Mondammej 12lb, and to be only beaten a length rates a good effort. He’s now 5lb lower than that, and with the Cowell yard now in better form than has been the case for much of the season, he can go close.

Others on the shortlist include Lord Riddiford, who has won twice at this meeting in the past and looks to have been teed up with this in mind, the speedy Night On Earth, who has the stands rail to run against, and Embour, who has a patchy record here, but shaped a lot better after a wind operation last time, and the return of cheekpieces here could help his cause too.
