Here’s today’s selection

13.15 – Cheltenham – Royaume Uni

Some disagreement on the first bet, I have to reveal. For all that he disappointed on the Flat at Newmarket last time, I’m sweet on the chances of ROYAUME UNI in the Catesby Handicap Hurdle, but David (‘a Gary Moore drifter? A GARY MOORE DRIFTER?!!’) is not so keen, for all we both liked the horse last season.

Moore’s 4-y-o son of Galileo is a strong traveller that still looks very well handicapped on the best of his Flat form, and he won easily at Plumpton on his latest hurdles start in what was a very smart time for conditions.

He caught a tartar in the shape of Herbiers at Ascot in March when receiving just 5lb. Herbiers is now rated over a stone higher after two subsequent wins, and although Royaume Uni is himself 10lb higher, that looks fully justified, and he ought to be winning races off his current mark given the impression he’s made to date, and the fact that he remains unexposed.

He could be a Betfair Hurdle contender in the spring – a race his trainer has done very well in over the years.
